Great first weekend!

We have survived our first weekend in Maastricht!
Our sleep patterns are still a bit off (although I didn't have a great circadian rhythm to begin with...) and we're trying to get regulated, but are having trouble getting up before 1pm!  Tomorrow we will force ourselves to get up around 10:30am so we can get a few things for the house and pick up bicycles.  For those of you who have not been to Holland, you should know that bicycles are about as essential as the shirt on your back.
Yesterday we did a bit of shopping downtown and got a few helpful things (a printer, cellphones, some groceries for our tiny fridge) and then went out for dinner and to a pub.  We made some local friends at the pub who toured us around for the night to a few other pubs and gave us a warm welcome to Holland.
Today we slept in yet again and went for a long walk exploring our neighbourhood.  We have learned that nothing is open on Sundays, so we couldn't even stock up on diet coke!  But we are getting lots of exercise by walking everywhere and learning our new town.
We have discovered that many restaurants give 20% off to students, which we are using to our advantage!  Last night we went out for Thai food with the other Canadians and tonight we went out for pizza, both at very reasonably prices (including conversion from Euros to CAD).  So far we've stuck with the other Canadians since this is our comfort zone, but I'm hopeful that we'll branch out and start hanging out with more locals once school starts.
Tomorrow I start school, which I'm a little apprehensive about because the Holland school system and learning/evaluation methods are quite different from Canada's.  I've been told by a number of different sources that Canadian universities are among the hardest in the world, so that gives me some hope that I can succeed at University of Maastricht (UM).
We are loving Maastricht so far and can't wait til we get our bikes tomorrow so we can explore even more and learn the ins and outs of this town.  We are settled in our apartment (other than needing a few things like some baskets to put shampoo in near the shower, etc) and are hoping to put up a video tour of our apartment tomorrow, so stay tuned!
